I have also noticed that even IF I am stung by a bee that does not penetrate it still tears the tissues in the gut and insects do not heal as effectively as say, mammals. She still dies from her attempt probably from the loss of hemolymph and invading microbes.

Several years ago I watched a GREAT program, shown on PBS, about a man studying bees and finding over 60 types in his own garden. He showed a few being shy and how they finally trusted his bees to come so close. After a few weeks, he was able to watch her lay her eggs. He also made friends with them. I've never seen anything like it before. As I said, this older man was from England, where a lot of older people have a lot of land gifted to them from (who knows what war). He had the time and inclination to record on video his experience throughout the lives of HIS BEE FRIENDS. HE GOT SO CLOSE THAT HE EVEN NAMED THEM!

I love bees. They fascinate me. I read lately that bees are very intelligent for such a small package and about that I have no doubt. I think it’s a shame that a bee will sacrifice itself to protect or defend. They play such an intricate part in so many ways for our benefits. Thank God for the humble and magnificent bee.
