I would argue that referring to a "normal" with weather continues to mislead the general public. There never was a "normal," and we need to get past the belief that what humans experienced during the "historical record" was just a blip in the radar of time. Besides Ingram's work, take a look at Malevich, Woodhouse & Meko 2013 in Journal of Hydrology. By using climate reconstructed from tree rings, the authors indicate severe 60 year droughts are possible in northern California and southern Oregon, which puts our current "worst in recorded history" droughts into context when considering the past 10,000 years of proxy records.

I would agree with Bob. We live in a world of constant change, in every field of study. This is why there is too much emphasis on "climate change" on not enough on air pollution. Sure, it's the same subject, but the second phrase just happens to be less confusing to the masses.

We live in a time where the average homeowner has an unprecedented ability to effect change by switching to solar power. I'm just trying to spread the word that the solar revolution has already started.

Amazing - progressives faced with evidence continue to deny any other possibility but their own religious fervor that it is evil man that causes all this. Over 600 years of drought long before the industrial revolution and still yet deny any other possibility. Not scientists - blind fools!

Tom Armitage - I know what you mean - what if climate change is a massive hoax and we make the world a better place for nothing?

Wow, she is really biting some dogma here! I pray for her professional safety, and thank her for being brave.

THIS PEOPLE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT.... Just because some simulations gave some result doesnt mean they're right. Fun listening though. Brave.

Professor Ingram has good empirical data. Unfortunately her conclusions are 180 degrees out of phase with the data.
A legend on a graph in the presentation says that salinity increases in the Medieval Warm period . The actual data in the graph shows that salinity was nearly at a minimum at about 1000 BP ( approximately the peak of the global MWP)and increased steadily towards a LIA minimum. Rainfall increased ( and presumably salinity decreased) she says during the last 150 years as we approached the latest peak in the Millennial temperature and solar cycle.
In general a warmer world is wetter and greener and a colder earth is dryer and less productive . That is pretty much opposite to what she is saying but agrees with what her data show..

Dr Norman Page you are wrong. The graph makes since. For a drought to occur warmer temperatures have be present to dry up the water sources. So over a period of a few hundreds years the warmer conditions along with less rain fall led to less fresh water entering the bay. This caused my sea water to be present than fresh water. This high salinity was at its max up into the end of the dry spell. The salinity went down when the drought ended due to fresh water entering the bay. This is also seen on the graph. Also your comments on dryer conditions during colder climate conditions are off also. It is based on the terrain and the oceans. If most of the moisture is being stripped from the air due to it having to go over higher terrain before it gets to the area were it needs the rain or if the jet stream is pushed high to the north due to ocean conditions. This will create unfavorable conditions for any type of precipitation. She touches on that a little in the video.

So, "Mike," when you say "make the world better for nothing," you're referring to polluting the Earth itself instead of the atmosphere? I bet you're one of those silly people that think of solar power as totally clean. Or that your electric car has zero emissions. There's no such thing as a free ride, anywhere in nature, and so many of the knee-jerk progressive agendas are based on the mantra of "change" than any actual study of, say, total harm done to the environment.

This Drought was not natural The weather controllers used HAARP and Chemtrails to kill and divert every low pressure system in the 2015-2016 El Nino And used the ridiculously resilient ridge  to divert every system to the northwest that is why it acted like a very strong La Nina And They did this in 2012, 2013, 2014 California is naturally in a Extremely wet era 2010-2011 Was Moderate La Nina and Southern California saw 6.00+ inches of rain this has not happened in 50+ years and Even Flooding in southern California in La Nina 2017 is another proof. The Higher temperatures in February are created by them to convince us of this Global Warming scam. Global Warming is a Scam. California is naturally seeing the Coldest temperatures in many many many years. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCp7xAgrKhcVKEztY_gjlLVQ/videos

As always, the progressive liberals are spreading lies that support their agenda.
The FACT is that droughts and wildfires have ALWAYS been normal in California throughout world history.
THOUSANDS of years before man even existed California suffered from the SAME weather fluctuations so to blame modern man for "climate change" is in FACT nothing but a bold face LIE.
And the ONLY time in California history that wildfires were under control was when LOGGING was done and a healthy logging industry was in place.
It is silly to blame weather for the stupidity of modern Californians.
The FACT is if you choose to surround your homes with millions of acres of FUEL, you WILL be burned out on a regular basis.

This is so interesting to a non-scientist but interested observer. The opinions of the scientific data is almost like that old saying about opinions and noses.
With all the supposed easy access to information it amazing how narrow the focus.
Fresh water, the only kind us terrestrial life can use is among one of the rarest commodities on this earth. Less than 0.5 percent by weight.
Around 10,000 ya the Sahara was one of the wettest places on the planet. Latest Antarctic core samples dating back 700,000 years show that in that time span this will be the fourth warming event that will last for at least 1,000 years.
So the issues isn't who or why but how are we going to cope.
