Remarkable, and a little bit scary. We've never seen anything like those self-forming chains. I wonder if other kinds of ants are capable of anything like that? This is more interesting than any monster movie.

Hi Carol, that's the amazing part of it - no one ever documented this. There are similar kinds of chains formed by weaver ants (Oecophylla sp.) to form their nest but not to retrieve food. These long chains are pretty unique, and so far only found in this undescribed species of Leptogenys ants from Cambodia/Thailand.
