It was suggested that we might do one-day seminars on soil science. What should we cover?
I would think:
1) soil classification
2) irrigation and soils
3) EC and salinity
4) pH and other aspects of soil chemistry
5) Field measurement methods and what to find on the web.
My question would be whether we could do enough in a day to sufficiently cover the above to the level that professionals would find useful? Or would this be something you really need to learn in college classes?
I think it is a great idea to have one-day seminars on soil science. While the optimal learning experience would be in a semester long course, it would be helpful to many if there were a series of full day seminars on various aspects of soil science. Some other topics for the list: Soil biology, site analysis - performing and understanding a soil test, nutrients for optimal plant health, maybe current research topics on managing soil (no-till, organic matter, biochar, etc.)
