I am so glad that you mostly survived the fire! Through this newsletter over the years I watched the construction of the beautiful headquarters/conference center. I assume since no mention was made, that it survived! I'm glad the sheep and the dogs survived. It is utterly amazing how quickly the threat to a landscape can change in a few short years. Mend and survive! Gail

Gail, thank you so very much for all of your thoughts!
Yes - the wonderful conference building did survive.
We will be holding a Harvest Celebration and updating everyone on the site fire recovery on November 10th - we'd love to see you there.

Thanks for the article! I have passed it along to people from AgInnovations and the Sonoma County Water Agency who are trying to inform homeowners in the Lake Sonoma watershed how best to preserve the integrity of the county’s most important water source. They may invite you to attend workshops in communities around the reservoir. My roots at Hopland REC go back to my MS from UCD, Major Professor Howdy Howard and Thesis Committee Member Bill Longhurst.

I visited the center a few times when a friend was doing a project there. When I saw that the fire was in the area, my heart sank. Like you say, we can learn a lot from this. I'm glad I got to see it in its full glory, and hope to see it as it renews itself.

Thankful that the losses weren't greater.

Hannah thank you for sharing this account. I can’t even imagine how stressful it’s been for you. But when I told my girls about the fires and that they were headed towards HREC and our research plots— you, your family and your house were the first thing they asked about! So glad you are all safe and the buildings are intact. I hope the water supply is able to be restored soon.

The Poor Ranch buildings were saved - the family worked so hard to keep their homes safe. They are amazing!

Wow. Great piece Hannah! I am so happy your homes and buildings were left intact. I am very sorry to hear about the damage to water and research infrastructure, like weather stations. As a research organization, each piece of equipment is so hard won and the setback of damaged gear is a difficult blow. Sending you good thoughts & wishes during the recovery.
