I brought in a locally-collected mantispid a few years ago and it should be in that unit tray! I think I've seen 3 of them in 46 years at Davis--one of which was this year. I didn't molest it.

I just found one in my yard! I’ve never seen or even heard of them.
And it was on a plant that also had a small praying mantis on it.

I just found this site while trying to identify a green mantisfly I found. I thought I was saving a young mantis from a leftover spiderweb on my birdhouse, but apparently I was just pestering a newly emerged mantisfly. It's wings have now uncurled and became clear. They were curly and opaque when I found it. Interesting little bug! (SW Missouri 5/3/2020)

I just saved one I sucked up in our vacuum thinking it was a small wasp... thought it was a praying mantis but now I feel bad for our friendly spiders.

I live in Ham Lake, MN and I came across one of these mantidflies while pulling weeds from the flower bed. I also had to look this up as I have never seen one in my 48 years. Very interesting

Just had one land on me while I was watching the river flow by near Johnson City, TX. Took some good pictures of him while he was around. Glad I didn’t kill him thinking it was a small yellowjacket about to sting me!

I have one chilling on my goldenrods today. Do I care that it is here? What do the adults eat? (Please tell me Japanese beetles. Ha!) I am very new to gardening, and excited to learn about all the insects that my perennials will attract.

Wings more lacy than those pictured here. Also nearly black. Astonishing creature. Lucky I found it and let it out before out kitten got it!

I caddy out at Sand Valley Golf Resort in Wisconsin and this precious little gem decided to land and rest on my hand. I, of course, jumped at the thought of a wasp but quickly noticed the body structure and mantis-like forelimbs. Flies and spiders are plentiful so I'm sure it was living its best life! What a find!

I found one attached to my screen and when I saw it I said "What the.....!" Never saw one of these astonishing sci-fi-looking creatures before in my 60 years. Took a video. I believe it may have just hatched because it kept curling and then unfurling its damp front "mantis" appendages, like a butterfly does its wings, then suddenly flew off.

There is one on my screen door. We were noticing how odd it looked, so I took a pic and had to look it up. Do they sting humans?

Just found one in the house today (8/2/2020). Collected it from the floor onto my cell phone, then carried it outside. I thought it was a praying mantis, but was confused by the "butt" looking like a wasp. Glad I found this site and info, and that others have recently commented about finding one too!

I have NEVER seen or heard of these until today...8/4/2020 6:36pm Woodlawn, VA. I am fascinated by insects and when stepping outside of our home, I noticed one on the siding next to the sliding glass door. I have lived in various areas of VA for most of my life, as well as, FL & ME and never seen anything like it. It was very intriguing, to say the least.

Met one Aug. 7 when I dumped a paper bag full of PVC parts (that had been on the porch for a couple weeks) into a bucket. It was having trouble climbing out of the bucket, I gave it an assist and it allowed me to get a photo before it flew off (with me thinking, huh, had no idea a praying mantis could fly). What an awesome find in Kalamazoo, Michigan! I saw something strange on my kitchen floor and thought it was a wasp. It started walking with its forearms and I did a double take. I took it outside for a better view. What a strange lovely fierce creature. I took pictures and looked it up on Google. I enjoyed reading the description of its life cycle. My family does not like spiders; reading that they attach to spiders as larva then wriggle into the spiders egg sac was fascinating! I have always loved praying mantises. I caught one as a child and made a nice home for it in a bucket for a few weeks. I kept a screen on top and fed it spiders and grasshoppers. We have told the story many times about my mom screaming on our couch after being bit by a spider. She used a paper towel to pick it up, fed it to my praying mantis and watched with delight as it devoured the culprit. She liked to add a creepy tone as she told the story. I fittingly let the wasp mantidfly go near a spider's web.

I just found one in a basket. I change it seasonally from my attached garage from spring garden gloves etc. to winter snow ones! I did think it was thee tiniest praying mantis I’d ever encountered!
I immediately threw him down the drain as I had enough of being allergic to everything I touched from Mother Nature!

My husband and I were cleaning the garage and found a huge yellow sac spider. She was about to nest up and lay eggs. We put her in a glass jar just to watch what happens next. I noticed a weird blackness getting bigger inside on the bottom of the sack. Today approximately 3 weeks later, I see another bug inside the jar. Confused. I asked my husband if he had found a crazy looking bug that resembles a praying mantis. He said no, and was extremely confused like myself. So I began to search this weird bug, found out they attach themselves to spiders. Crazy cool. Near Lake Erie, southern Minnesota.

Just found 4 (!) of them on my tiny cherry tree in Norrhern Utah. These are the first ones I have ever seen. So cool. I fed one of them with a little saw fly larva I found on the leaves. It grabbed it and ate most of it.

I live in Pittsburgh, PA. Two days ago a Mantid wasp laid a patch of eggs on the wall of my porch! What an amazing little creature! Is there anything I should do? I don't know if I should try and save them from freezing over the winter or if it's something I may not want hanging around my house? I'm always saving random creatures I know won't survive on their own so if they are helpful I'll do whatever I can. But I'm not familiar with the species and am concerned they may be invasive? Any information would be extremely helpful! Thank you for your time!
