Dear Colleagues,
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife announced the call for Wetlands Restoration for Greenhouse Gas Reduction Program pre-proposals due August 13, 2019.
The Program restores wetland ecosystems to provide essential services to California's people, wildlife, and fish. Wetlands have high carbon sequestration rates that can sequester carbon for decades. There is tremendous opportunity to restore large areas of mountain meadow, coastal tidal, and Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta wetlands that do not currently provide the full potential of carbon storage or other benefits due to historical land use. The program is seeking grant proposals for projects that will restore or enhance wetlands and result in a net reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and provide important co-benefits. Applicants may request funding for both Planning and Implementation Phases of a project. For this funding cycle, there are no minimum or maximum amounts required for awarded projects. However, CDFW cannot award more than the approximate $12.75 million that is available.
The Program is part of California Climate Investments, a statewide program that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing GHG emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment - particularly in disadvantaged communities. The Cap-and-Trade program also creates a financial incentive for industries to invest in clean technologies and develop innovative ways to reduce pollution. California Climate Investments projects include affordable housing, renewable energy, public transportation, zero-emission vehicles, environmental restoration, more sustainable agriculture, recycling, and much more. At least 35 percent of these investments are located within and benefiting residents of disadvantaged communities, low-income communities, and low-income households across California.
Required pre-applications are due on August 13th. Those interested in applying are invited to join a Pre-Application Workshop on July 31, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. via Skype. Please register for the online event here: https://meet.wildlife.ca.gov/erin.aquino-carhart/C4CBBY5D
