Please join us for a Cover Crop Field Day and “Open Farm” Event to be held in Meridian at Park Farming Organics on March 26th. Please feel free to share with anyone who may be interested.
The half of the event (9-10:30 am) will be a field day with presentations and discussion on a variety of topics related to cover crops and soil health management. Ten plots with different cover crop species are planted in the field for demonstration. Presenters include:
- Sarah Light, UCCE – Research Updates: Cover Crop Field Trails in Annual Rotations in the Sacramento Valley
- Margaret Smither-Kopperl, USDA Plant Materials Center – Soil Biodiversity and Soil Health Indicators
- Scott Park, Park Farming Organics – Cover Crops Are Just One Tool in the Toolbox
- Amelie Gaudin, UC Davis – Integrating Livestock in California Cropping Systems: Opportunities and Challenges
The second half of the event (10:30 am-noon) will be an “Open Farm” Tour and Discussion with Brian Park and Scott Park. Scott and Brian will show fields with cover crops and the equipment used for drilling, mowing, and incorporating cover crops. They can share their experience with reduced tillage, cover crops, animal grazing and more. Pros and cons of cover cropping in wet and dry years will be discussed.

This event is hosted by the University of California Cooperative Extension and the Western Cover Crops Council, Southwestern Committee.
This event is free, and everyone is welcome to attend.
