Entomology
The entomology program deals with insect problems across agriculture, natural areas, homes and landscapes. It also provides identification services for insect samples and insect related problems. General information about many pest problems can be found at the UC Statewide Integrated Pest Management Program.
Small Farms Network
Small Farms Advisors and program staff serve to connect small-scale and urban farmers to farm management resources. Central Coast Farms is our local Small Farms Network research and extension source.
Irrigation and Water Resources
This program conducts research that promotes water saving techniques and lessens impacts of irrigation and fertilizers on the environment. CropManage is a free online irrigation and nutrient management tool based on years of research and field studies conducted by the University of California.
Livestock and Natural Resources
The Livestock & Natural Resources program focuses on research and education to promote management practices that enhance production efficiency, ranch profitability, sustainability, and the ecosystem services tailored to address the needs of San Benito, Monterey, and Santa Cruz Counties.
Plant Pathology
Plant Pathology investigates and conducts research on plant diseases and causes. Advisors carry out educational programs on plant disease management and provides diagnostic services.
Vegetable Crops & Weed Science
An applied research and educational program in vegetable crop production and weed science for crops grown in Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz Counties. Production issues include soil fertility, abiotic problem diagnosis, cover crop management, and new crop development. Weed identification services are provided, as well as research on weed control.
Fire Network
The UC Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) Fire Network is dedicated to improving fire resilience for all Californians, developing and delivering science-based information to support healthy communities and ecosystems.
Viticulture
The viticulture program focuses on extension education, applied research and problem diagnosis for winegrape growers in Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz Counties. Current research projects include experiments that are evaluating rootstocks for soil pests, clonal evaluation of winegrape varieties, evaluation of disease control methods, comparison of vineyard training methods, vineyard floor management and trellis system comparisons.
Agriculture Technology
The local Agriculture Technology Area Advisor focuses on applied research, education, and technical assistance for a variety of on-farm technologies such as sensors, wireless communication, robotics, software tools, drones and other technologies to improve water and nutrient management, crop production systems, food processing, and pest management.
