The Suggestion box is your venue to submit comments, questions, and requests in its most basic and traditional form. We have provided both this online version and the hand written version by the bulletin board. All suggestions are reviewed and discussed by the Second Street Operations Committee (SSOC) and will remain anonymous, if requested.
Suggestion Box Survey
Improving our work environment depends on you, regardless of the collection method, employees are still our best sources for innovative ideas and we encourage everyone to participate. Please explain exactly what you want to accomplish, whether it's solving a problem or improving a process.
Thank you

Suggestion: Please remind employees that the 30 minute parking space is meant for 30 minute parking only. I’ve seen cars parked there regularly all day. I had an advisor come to pick stuff up and have to double-park/block cards because this loading zone was being used.
From SSOC: Since an additional parking lot was added earlier this year this should free up additional spaces for all to park. Please be courteous an observe posted parking signs.
Body
Suggestion: Please remind large cars to NOT park in compact spots-this is how cars get damaged. And small cars to park in compact spaces; when small cars take up the large spots, large cars take the compact spots.
From SSOC: 92 full-size parking spots were added this year. This has doubled our free parking capacity and has created unused stalls on all but the busiest days of operation. If you desire additional space for your vehicle, please consider using these full-size stalls. The Facilities maintenance schedule includesresurfacing of the original parking lot (within the next few years/as budget allows) and at that time the number of compact stalls required will be evaluated. Suggestion: I heard that there was a burglary in our parking lot today. Why has there been no announcement to the building occupants? This is a safety issue and you need to let people know at least so that they can be more aware in the parking lot. Thank you.
From SSOC: Facilities and Risk Services have scheduled a complete security audit of our entire grounds to be performed by UCD Campus Police during the month of June. We look forward to reviewing all recommendations that can contribute toward our safety and security. Suggestion: A general reminder is needed to staff re: building noise levels and how voices carry from open spaces on the 1st floor up to the 2nd floor in the building.
From SSOC: The committee wishes to remind everyone of the difficulties of working in a large, open environment, and the need for everyone to be flexible and make allowances for the wide variety of work-styles and needs of all employees. Please keep the following in mind:
- If you need to make a private call, or a conference call, or any other form of communication which requires the utmost silence, the quite rooms are available specifically for this purpose. If you do not have a laptop and require the use of a computer for your communications, please make every effort to reserve a conference room ahead of time.
- In an open floorplan such as we have here at Second Street, voices carry far more than they do in other work environments. While the need for everyday conversations is understood, it is of the utmost importance that all employees remember to be respectful of their neighbors.

Suggestion: Is it possible to create a gated bike storage area in the covered outdoor space next to the Coast Room? This could utilize overhead and ground level bicycle storage along with a combination lock gate that would protect bicycles not in lockers
From SSOC: This suggestion has been referred to Facilities and we are currently awaiting an answer to post.
Body
Suggestion: Would it be possible to get wall-mounted soap dispensers in the building showers? Bringing your own soap isn’t ideal….
From SSOC: In the absence of any clear SSOC direction and without a clear consensus on a universally accepted soap; Facilities is going to stay the course and proceed with the “bring your own towel, change of clothes, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, and soap” policy. Soap will continue to be viewed as a personal item that needs to be removed from the shower area upon exit. Any soap left behind will be disposed of at the end of each work day.

Suggestion: So back in April at the ANR State Wide Conference Evette Kilmartin took head shots of people who went to the event. Could an announcement be sent out about when the photos will be available to the people who had their picture taken? I have sent two emails.
From SSOC: Evett Kilmartin has provided headshot images from the Statewide Conference to people individually. If you did not receive your photo, please contact Evett directly at
