Logos

The official statewide logo for the UC Master Gardener Program is the key building block of the program’s identity and the primary visual element that communicates who we are and what we do. The logo should never be color enhanced, outlined or altered in any way.  To get more information of the 2025 UCANR Logo Rebrand check out of our Rebrand page.

Standard Logo:

Your brand logo is the face of the UC ANR brand when communicating with your members and the public. Your logo is crucial for establishing a recognizable and consistent presence across all marketing platforms. Your new logo consists of three elements:

  • the brand symbol
  • the brand wordmark
  • the gold divider

The Brand Symbol is the element that brings the voice and symbolism to the logo. It visually represents your mission. The Brand Wordmark states the name of your program above the name of the parent company typography. The Gold Divider is a structural element that binds the brand logo together and ties the new design back to the overall UC ANR brand. The format seen here is the only acceptable format. All other formats must be approved prior to usage.

Logo Misuse

The overall purpose of a branding effort is to gain awareness and, ultimately, instant recognition of the primary brand through consistent and correct applications. The Don’ts provide specific variables to avoid. Logos cannot be combined with other words or images in any way that appears to create a new customized logo. Ensure that there is sufficient space between the official logo and other design elements to avoid appearing as co-branding.

  • Do not add elements or additional words to the logo.
  • Do not distort the proportions of the logo when resizing.

Understanding Social Media Marks vs. Full Logos

Image
Orange Poppy on a blue dot

The UC Master Gardener Program brand includes two versions of our logo: the full logo (which includes both the California poppy icon and "UC Master Gardener Program" text) and the social media mark (which features only the California poppy icon). The full logo is the default and should be used in most situations. The social media mark was specifically designed for profile pictures and other small spaces where the full logo's text would become illegible, ensuring our brand remains recognizable and professional across all platforms and materials.

  • Full logo (default) = icon + text (for most uses: banners, websites, printed materials)
  • Social media mark (special use) = icon only (for profile pictures and very small spaces)

Why this matters: Using the wrong version can make text illegible or create a cluttered appearance, which weakens visual impact and makes it harder for people to identify the UC Master Gardener Program.

Quick rule: Always use the full logo unless you're updating a profile picture or the space is too small for the text to be readable.

When to Use the Social Media Mark:

  • Profile pictures on all social platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Pinterest)
  • Anywhere the logo appears smaller than 1 inch

File Usage by Platform:

  • Most platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Pinterest): Use the MG_Social file for profile pictures only
  • YouTube only: Use the MG_Social_YouTube file for the profile picture only
  • All other materials: Use the appropriate full logo from the brand toolkit

Secondary Logo

A secondary logo is any graphic, artwork, image, or stylized text that is used to identify a specific county-based UC Master Gardener Program. The use of secondary logos is not permitted for the UC Master Gardener Program under any circumstances. No new secondary logos may be created, produced or used after January 1, 2017. All previously used county-based UC Master Gardener Program logos must be completely phased out and no longer visible to the public.

Support Group or Affiliated Organization

Co-branding of two logos is only permitted for University support groups and affiliated organizations as defined by UC Policy.

Any activities directly linked to the UC Master Gardener Program and for which UC Master Gardener volunteers are receiving volunteer hours must be branded and include the official UC Master Gardener Program statewide logo. For these events and/or activities, the UC Master Gardener Program logo must be placed in the predominant location on all marketing materials and must be of equal or greater size than the support group or affiliated organization logo.
