Job Interview Contest
This event is open to all junior, intermediate and senior members (Ages 9-18). Tasks include reviewing a job description, submitting a resume and cover letter prior to the competition, and participating in a mock job interview. The Job Interview contest provides career development opportunities by developing youth's skill in:
- Career Planning
- Written Communication- resume and cover letter writing
- Oral Communication- public speaking
- Persuasive speaking skills
How to Participate in the Job Interview Contest

Step 1: Choose a job.
Choose one of the jobs listed in your age category and download the job descriptions.
- Junior Category (9-10 years old)

Step 2: Develop a resumé.
Include real-life experiences (education, work, activities, etc.) that demonstrate your qualifications for the job selected. *Sample resumes in Contest Manual linked below
Step 3: Write a cover letter.
Your cover letter should explain why you should be considered for the job selected. *Sample cover letters in Contest Manual linked below
Step 4: Register for contest & email your resume and cover letter when you register to jestefani@ucanr.edu.
Step 5: Receive your interview time.
Once registration has closed, you will receive an email with the contest details. Be sure to check your spam folder.
Step 6: Prepare for your interview.
Review the tips, interview questions, judging rubrics, and supporting materials provided in the California 4-H Interview Contest Manual to prepare for your interview.
Step 7: Show-up for your interview
Dress appropriately for the interview - Appropriate dress includes 4-H uniform OR attire appropriate for a job interview as outlined in the Interview Contest Manual.
