To celebrate Farm to Fork Month this September, the Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA), Herbert Bauer Memorial Community Garden and CalFresh Healthy Living team in Woodland are hosting a free class focusing on preserving food from your garden. Yolo County gardeners of all experience levels are invited to learn from UCCE Master Food Preservers of Yolo and Solano counties. No gardening experience is necessary to participate and all are welcome to attend.
The class topics will include fruit and vegetable canning and drying. There will be a hands-on “make and take” activity where participants will get to walk away with an edible, handcrafted treat they made in the class.
Pre-registration is required for the class. To register, contact Nick Gazda at nick.gazda@yolocounty.gov or (530) 666-8429 by September 26. Participants are encouraged to dress for warm weather and bring water. In the event of extreme heat or poor air quality, the classes will be moved inside.
This class is free to all and is part of the HHSA’s commitment to providing education that can help residents eat fresh fruits and vegetables and live healthier lives. Classes are offered for free throughout the year at the Hanna and Herbert Bauer Memorial Garden. To learn more about the garden activities and classes, please visit: www.yolocounty.org/garden.
