Benefits of Community Gardens

  • Enhance our neighborhoods by turning empty lots into green areas
  • Provides individuals and families the opportunity to grow fresh, healthy produce
  • Encourages the understanding and awareness of the local environment
  • Offers the opportunity to build a sense of community within neighborhoods

The UC Master Gardener Program of San Diego County's Community Gardens group advises and educates the public on starting and maintaining sustainable community gardens for the benefit of their local community.

Getting Started

Information on starting or restoring a community garden

The Juniper Front Community Garden shows raised garden beds full of green foliage, milkweed, red and orange roses, pink cosmos and a variety of flowers in hanging baskets. There are vining plants and corn along a fence in the background, with a house and apartment buildings beyond the garden.
