California’s Channel Islands are home to nearly 800 different plant types, more than 280 of which are found nowhere else. 

Many of these developed in isolation from the mainland, over terrain ranging from woodlands and grasslands to chapparal and coastal sage scrub.  Fourteen of the islands’ plants are federally listed as threatened or endangered species.
