About Us
Supporting UC ANR’s Facilities and Infrastructure
The Real Estate and Facilities Development (REFD) Department supports the mission of UC ANR through strategic planning, facility coordination, and real estate oversight across California.
REFD works closely with UC ANR leadership, Research and Extension Center directors, UC Cooperative Extension offices, consultants, contractors, and the University of California Office of the President to support projects that advance research, outreach, operations, and public engagement.
The department helps guide projects through University processes and approvals while supporting long-term infrastructure planning and operational needs throughout the UC ANR system.
Research and Extension Center Development
REFD plays an important role in the planning and development of facilities that support UC ANR’s statewide programs and research network.
Current efforts include revitalization and modernization projects at multiple Research and Extension Centers (RECs), with a focus on improving accessibility, visibility, functionality, and support for both UC and non-UC researchers.
The department also coordinates with University partners and stakeholders to help ensure projects align with institutional standards, operational goals, and long-term planning priorities.
