Giving Back With Purpose
The UC Master Food Preserver (UC MFP) program is a volunteer-based program that has been operating in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties since 2014 and serves the community through public education, positive youth engagement, and collaborative partnerships to extend research on food safety and home food preservation. One important way the program sustains accessible reach to the local community is through training new volunteers year after year.
This year, UC MFP volunteers trained 9 new volunteer over the course of five months. New volunteers are working hard to become experts in food safety basics and food preservation methods and will soon earn an official status of being a Certified Master Food Preserver. We are excited to welcome the new volunteers to the team, knowing that it is the volunteers who give their time and expertise to strengthen our local communities and make a meaningful difference.
You can also make a difference by donating to our program during #GivingDay. We invite you to “preserve today, relish tomorrow,” and to support our mission to keep Californians safe and well as they use culturally appropriate, research-based practices to safely preserve food in the home.
By donating to the UC Master Food Preserver Program and UC ANR you extend the knowledge and resources of the University to your community. We hope you will join us on May 14-15 from noon to noon! give.ucanr.edu/pages/master-food-preservers
