UC workshops for growing wine grapes and nuts in extreme and variable weather June 8, 9 and 12

Workshops set for June 8 in Stockton, in June 9 Modesto and June 12 in Parlier

A special workshop series focused on growing grape and nut crops in variable weather will be offered by UC Cooperative Extension in June at three locations – Stockton, Modesto and Parlier.

“Extreme weather events and increasing climate variability are creating new challenges for California farmers,” said Tapan Pathak, UC Cooperative Extension specialist in climate adaptation in agriculture. “California’s grape and nut growers are facing increasing challenges from extreme heat, drought, shifting pest pressures and greater weather variability.”

The three workshops help growers, consultants, researchers and industry professionals navigate these challenges. The series is titled “Resilient Crop Systems and Practices for Extreme and Variable Weather Conditions.”

These workshops bring together researchers, industry experts and growers to share practical strategies, decision-support tools and the latest science that can help specialty crop growers and industry adapt and remain profitable under extreme weather conditions.

“Participants will gain actionable insights on irrigation management, soil health, pest management and weather-informed decision-making that can strengthen vineyard and nut crop resilience and long-term sustainability,” Pathak said.
