Photo Information Focusing on California Native plants in a shady garden can be challenging, but this Asarum caudata is very happy here. The flower is almost Halloweenish.

Description Native wild ginger has adapted nicely to the areas of total shade in my garden. I took this photo this past early, early spring when the small flowers bloom under the large heart shaped leaves. I always take it as a compliment when plants self-sow and this one is going like crazy, in between rocks in the wall and beyond. The first time I saw one of these flowers, I thought it was some sort of insect, albeit a very large one!
