Creek Carbon: Sequestering Carbon with Watershed Restoration Conservation Practices
David Lewis, UC ANR Cooperative Extension Advisor, Marin and Napa Counties
This project is designed to confirm if riparian revegetation and restoration on working ranches and farms leads to carbon sequestration and increased nitrogen uptake, and if this is the case also document the rate of change for these ecosystem services as a function of restoration project age. Accordingly, the proposed project addresses the Sustainable Natural Ecosystem initiative and specifically the balancing multiple ecosystem services and biotic diversity in California’s working landscapes target area. Additionally, in advancing the valuation of ecosystem services provided by working landscapes this project has a nexus and will be integrated with the Sustainable Food Systems Initiative through a concentration in science-based information and marketing strategies to enhance California agricultural products locally, nationally, and globally.
