Auerbach, Jane: UC Master Gardener Vol.
Description Our back door is a flight up from the garden, so a ledge on its landing is where I grow my most-used herbs, like these green onions. Not having to run up and down stairs for a few last-minute snips while cooking certainly makes them easier to use.Every stage of green onions' growth offers its own pleasures, from tender new green stems to the tiny black seeds that develop on spent flowers, assuring future crops. But I especially love the first appearance of their buds, with the nearly transparent membrane that protects each inflorescence until it's ready to bloom.
