Video Guidelines

It is the responsibility of the individual exhibitors to secure all needed equipment and ensure that they are working properly.

Video Uploading for the 2021 Horse Classic Event has now closed

Equipment needed

  • Digital video camera, tablet or smartphone with video and audio capability.
  • Computer, smartphone, or tablet with internet connection.

Rules for Videos

  • Videos must be continuous without any editing. If video is edited it will result in a no score.
  • All video must have audio.
  • Videos can be filmed after patterns are posted and must be fully uploaded and correctly titled by 5pm on June 27, 2021.
  • Only one rider, one class, one pattern, per video submission.
  • May be filmed in a pasture, arena or dirt lot. You must set pattern up exactly as it reads.
  • Acceptable video formats:
    • MP4
    • MOV
    • MPEG-4
    • AVI

At beginning of video, hold up a sign with the following information:

Sample Horse Show Sign

  • Full name of rider
  • Date of Birth
  • Contestant number
  • Class number
  • Full name of horse
  • Age of horse

Guidelines for filming

Pattern Classes (English, Western, Ranch, Jumping)

Walk 20 seconds, Trot/Jog 30 seconds, Lope/canter 30 seconds, walk reserves direction repeat prior segment after completion halt and back 5 steps.

English Dressage Suitability - Dressage suitability is judged on your horse's ability to potentially to do dressage. For this class you will walk, trot, extended trot, canter, and free hand gallop, reverse and do the same in the opposite direction stop and back 10 steps.

  • In Showmanship, the camera person represents the eyes and ears of the judge and should be standing and filming from that perspective.
  • Other patterns - shoot the video from the best angle.

Rail Class

Walk 20 seconds, Trot/Jog 30 seconds, Lope/canter 30 seconds, walk reserves direction repeat prior segment after completion halt and back 5 steps.

  • Ranch Class - camera person announces each gait for the rider.

Gymkhana Classes

  • Start/Finish lines must be clearly marked (Draw a line in the sand with your foot, white lime, chalk, etc.).
  • Video must show the horse crossing the start line/finish line with timer in view. (Hint: Ask your videographer to stand in line with the score line!)

If it is suspected that the pattern does not match prescribed measurements, the rider will be disqualified from the event.

Video Submissions

  • Date Patterns will be posted - June 7, 2021
  • Video uploads begin at 8am June 21, 2021
  • Video uploads close at 5pm June 27, 2021 (please allow for upload time, videos not fully uploaded by 5pm will not count)

Instructions for submitting videos

  • Title videos with the following format:
       "Contestant Number_FirstNameLastName_Class Number"
       Example: 2222_JohnSmith

  • Videos must be continuous, with sound, and without any editing. If video is edited it will result in a no score.

  • Please upload your video to the Google Drive folder. NOTE: You will have to login to Google in order to upload.

  • Uploaded videos will be moved out of the folder regularly for security purposes.
