There is a lot of valuable online information that is available to growers, PCAs, and members of our community at large. These are some of the sites that I have found to be most useful to me.

 

Weed Science:

The Western Society of Weed Science (WSWS) is a professional organization serving the Western United States and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. Membership is open to anyone, including federal, state, and local employees, private company personnel, crop consultants, growers, or others interested in a wide variety of weed science related information. The objectives of the WSWS include: fostering and encouraging education and research in weed science; fostering cooperation among state, federal and private agencies in matters of weed science; aiding and supporting commercial, private and public agencies in the solution of weed problems; supporting legislation governing weed control programs and weed research and education programs; supporting the Weed Science Society of America and foster state and regional organizations and agencies interested in weed control. The WSWS also serves as a repository for WSWS newsletters and research progress reports, as well as the proceedings of the annual WSWS meeting dating back to 1938.

The Weed Science Society of America (WSSA) is a professional organizationfounded in 1956 with the goal of fostering an awareness of weeds and their impact on the environment. The WSSA provides science-based information to the public and government policymakers while promoting research, education, and outreach activities. Members include academic, governmental, and private industry research scientists,  students and educators, extension educators, and federal, state, county, and private land managers. Links to society newsletters, meeting proceedings, science policy papers, and press releases can be found at the site.

The International Survey of Herbicide Resistant Weeds is a collaborative effort between weed scientists in over 80 countries (and funded by the Global Herbicide Resistance Action Committee and CropLife International) to maintain scientific accuracy in the reporting of herbicide resistant weeds globally. The site hosts an up-to-date and publicly accessible database of confirmed occurrences of herbicide resistant weeds from around the world.

Agronomy:

The American Society of Agronomy (ASA) is a progressive international scientific and professional society founded in 1907 that empowers scientists, educators, and practitioners in developing, disseminating, and applying agronomic solutions to feed and sustain the world. The ASA is the professional home for 8,000+ members and 14,000+ certified professionals dedicated to advancing the field of agronomy. The ASA provides information about agronomy in relation to agronomic production, biometry and statistical computing, climatology and modeling, education and extension, environmental quality, global agronomy, and land management and conservation.

Crop Data and Reports:

Various organizations collect and store information about crop acres planted and harvested and crop yield over time. This information is publicly available via raw data or summarized reports. California specific information (including county crop reports) can be obtained through the statistics section of the California Department of Food and Agriculture's web page. Crop information for all US states can be accessed via the United State's Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Agricultural Commissioners' Offices:

Agricultural Commissioners enforce the laws and regulations of the California Food and Agriculture Code and the California Code of Regulations while serving at the discretion of the County Board of Supervisors and California Department of Food and Agriculture's (CDFA) Secretary of Agriculture.
