Community Economic Development
An emerging program at UC ANR, Community Economic Development is the focus of a number of newly hired professionals that include County-based advisors and UC campus-based specialists throughout California. The program aims to address natural resource challenges alongside economic and social needs and is dedicated to applied research and extension.
Beginning in June of 2023, Bay Area work will focus on increasing economic prosperity, and building an inclusive, equitable society in support of Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Initial efforts center on building trust and relationships with community based organizations that are BIPOC led and/or BIPOC centered, with emphasis on the next generation of leaders (roughly adults ages 18-35). This program aims to use partnerships with organizations, local government and academic institutions to collaborate in projects and acquire funding as well as institute policy change within and beyond the Bay Area.
