Permitting required for prescribed burning in the Central Sierra

Across all counties:

For burning piles, you will need a burn permit. If the pile is less than four feet by four feet, and you are burning it during the burn season, you will need a CalFire burn permit.

El Dorado County burn requirements

Air Quality: The El Dorado County Air Quality Management District web page has burn day information as well as the burn permit application. If your burn pile exceeds 4 feet by 4 feet, a free Burn Permit is required from the Air District. A smoke management plan is required if the project will release more than 1 ton of emissions or 10 acres of treated area. Contact the district for assistance.

Local Fire Agencies: A broadcast burning permit is required from CalFire during the fire season. Local fire agencies may have their own requirements and also are important to notify for a large burn. Contact fire agencies here.
