- Read pg. 1-9 of Chapter one of the Compost Handbook. Focus on the section about sold waste and waste reduction. (~20 min)
- Explore Santa Clara County's webpage on SB 1383 (~10 min)
- Watch embedded videos about SB 1383 answer questions accordingly (~18 min)
- Read through Green Waste's website on their processing facility and watch both of the embedded video tours (~10 min altogether) answer questions accordingly.
- Reflect on where you waste goes! Do you know who collects it and what happens to it once you're done using it?
Speaker's Bio
Week 3 we will be hearing from Michele Young, Senior Management Analyst, Recycling and Waste Reduction, County of Santa Clara and fellow Master Composter regarding Senate Bill 1383.
Michele has worked in the agriculture and solid waste industries for over 30 years, and currently works for the County of Santa Clara. She has applied her BS in Agricultural Business, and her Master’s in Environmental Science to diverse programs including large scale organics collection and composting; home composting and sustainable landscaping; energy from organics; recycled water; and storm water management. Michele has been a long time supporter of Californians Against Waste, and looks forward to participating as a board member, helping other jurisdictions to support and benefit from collaboration with Californians Against Waste.
