Selecting an ANR Issue and Assigning Knowledge Area FTE
In this function, you specify at least one broad ANR Issue that you plan to address in the current fiscal year.
You may choose from among the 23 ANR Issues: 21 were identified by the Division-wide program planning process and described in the ANR document, Core Issues & Target Opportunities 2005 and two new issues (Sustainable Energy and Climate Change) added in 2011, defined in Two New ANR Issues Definitions. If, and only if, you plan work that does not address one of the 23 ANR Issues, you may specify, "Other Programmatic Activity" as your choice.
For each of your ANR Issues, you identify at least one Knowledge Area (KA) and enter the Cooperative Extension FTE you plan to commit to that more specific sub-area. You should account for all of your "Programmatic FTE" with KA entries.
The KA Classification System is the USDA coding system originally used to classify AES research but now expanded to cover CE programs as well. To see the KA descriptions, click here, Knowledge Area Classification System. (The 3-digit code number you see below for each KA will help in looking up the description.)
To add an ANR Issue and/or Knowledge Area:
- On the left menu, click on Annual Plan then Annual Plan Overview. On this page, below the ANR Issues / Knowledge Areas header, click the blue add new ANR Issue / KA button. A new screen will open.
- Click the downward arrow button to see an alphabetical list of all 21 ANR Issues, followed by an additional choice: "Other Programmatic Activity." Note: if you have already selected ANR Issues you will see them listed above the dotted line. Click on your choice of ANR Issues, which best describes the broad issue area that you plan your work to address.
- Click the downward arrow on the Knowledge Area drop down menu to see the list of all 84 KA's in alphabetical order. At the top of the menu are the KA's most closely related to the selected ANR Issue, but you may choose whichever KA best represents your planned work on this issue. Select the Knowledege Area (sub-area) that you plan to address.
- Enter the FTE you plan to commit to the KA. You must allocate some FTE to add the KA.
- Click the Save ANR Issues / Knowledge Area button. You will then see notification "ANR Issue / Knowledge Area Successfully added" in a banner at the top of the screen. Your selected ANR Issue and the respective Knowledge Area and FTE will appear on the Plan overview screen, listed under the ANR Issues / Knowledge Area header.
To specify additional ANR Issues and Knowledge Area / FTE: Repeat Steps 1 - 5.
Note: If you are trying to add a new Knowledge Area and you have already allocated all your programmatic FTE to selected Knowledge Areas, you will first need to decrease the FTE for the previously selected KAs, in order to be able to add a new KA with FTE.
To edit Knowledge Area / FTE: click the link of the Knowledge Area that you want to edit.
- To change the Knowledge Area, select a different KA from the drop down menu. Then click the Save ANR Issue / Knowledge Area FTE button.
-
To change the previously recorded Knowledge Area FTE figure, type over the old number and click the Save ANR Issue / Knowledge Area FTE button.
