Fruit trees can be a beautiful and rewarding addition to your landscape. Whether you are planning on a single tree or a full home orchard, this workshop will cover how to select trees that can succeed and produce well in your SF/Peninsula microclimate. We will also discuss soil preparation and planting, pruning, disease prevention and pest management of your new trees in their first year. By the end of this beginning class, participants should have the confidence to select and plant fruit trees.
Co-Presenter UC Master Gardener Lisa Putnam: Lisa has a BS in Agricultural Economics from UC Davis and also studied nutrition science at Davis. She currently operates a small sustainable organic farm in Woodside and is a UC Master Gardener and Master Composter. Lisa’s passion is soil and compost.
Co-Presenter UC Master Gardener Kathleen Putnam: Kathleen is a professional organic vegetable gardener serving the Mid-Peninsula and is an ISA Certified Arborist. She has a degree in Environmental Horticulture from City College of San Francisco and is a UC Master Gardener. Kathleen’s passion is fruit trees.
