Oak woodland management resources:
“The Status of Sudden Oak Death Control in California," published in the CAPCA Advisor on page 41, provides an update on management and control measures to control the impact of SOD on forests and trees.
Our team served as editors for the Proceedings from the Fourth International Workshop on the Genetics of Host-parasite Interactions in Forestry: Disease and Insect Resistance in Forest Trees.
Tanoaks have an integral role in the ecology and culture of California’s oak woodlands. This includes Native American uses as a food source. Learn about these uses and how to prepare these foods in Foods from the Tanoak Forest Ecosystem. Our Forest Health and Sudden Oak Death outreach team authored the article as part of their role in leading an all-day conference on Tan Oak culture and management in June 2012.

Twig canker, while common to many California trees and shrubs, was first confirmed on willows in Marin County. Our Environmental Horticulture Advisor published this finding in the Journal of Plant Disease.

For those beginning farmers and ranchers, the “Getting Started Ranching and Farming in Marin” is a comprehensive listing of resources and tips for doing just that.
Learn about the North Bay food system and through the valuable resource “Community Food Systems: Resources & Information for the North Bay.” This an in-depth and go-to compilation of the partners and elements in Marin and surrounding counties that make up our local food system.
Diversifying ranch and farm operations more often than not requires developing an adequate and approved water system. “Understanding Rural Water System Permits for Marin County Agriculture” is the place for any rancher or farmer to learn about the requirements and how to get approval for their water systems.
Youth development resources:
Our environmental education and youth development team members partnered on “Trees for You and Me,” an interactive and online program used as part of Science, Engineering and Technology content through our 4-H in the classroom program.
The results of the Marin County Environmental Stewardship Pilot were published in the Journal of Extension, highlighting the key findings for developing a partnership model for training volunteers to work with at-risk summer day camp youth. This was a program in partnership with the Conservation Corps North Bay.
