Plant and Garden Art Sales

Plant Sale
Every Year, the UC Mariposa Master Gardeners of Mariposa County present a Spring plant and garden art sale.  These sales offer unbelievably low prices and access to plants suited to our local climate and often varieties that are difficult to find at a commercial nursery.

  • Plants include: tomatoes, vegetables, herbs, California natives, drought-tolerant, annuals, perennials, succulents, grasses, trees, shrubs, and house plants. Bring boxes to transport.
  • Hand Crafted Garden Art.
  • Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer your gardening questions. We will also feature Garden Art from our talented Master Gardeners and information on Plant-a-Row (how you can grow food to donate to those in need).

The sale takes place at the Mariposa Fairgrounds, 5007 Fairgrounds Road at the Amigo Picnic Area on the last Saturday in April.

Spring Garden Tour

Ingrid, Barbara, Lindy
Be Inspired! Every other year, the UC Master Gardeners offer a Garden Tour of at least 5 local properties to help you get inspired about the options available to you. The next Garden Tour will take place in May of 2026.

Plan an inspirational weekend outing and take home great garden ideas by ordering your tickets. The tour will take place rain or shine.  All participants, including children, must have tickets. Please call us at 209-966-2417 with any questions.

Master Gardener docents are on hand at each location to answer your gardening questions.  Brochures will be available at each location to guide you through your walk and identify the plants.

Demonstration Gardens

Dark Star & Poppies
Master Gardeners developed and maintain a demonstration garden of California native plants along the path of the Mariposa Creek Parkway on Stroming Road, between 6th and 8th Streets. The purpose of the garden is to demonstrate the beauty and hardiness of California native plants in home landscaping. Most of the plants in this garden are drought tolerant, attract birds and butterflies and are unattractive to deer. Many plant species and varieties are labeled and a brochure for self-guidance is available on-line. Take a stroll down the path and see Flannel Bush, Leopard Lily, Buckeye, Western Columbine, Western Blue Flax, Emerald Carpet Manzanita, Redbud and many others. Funding was provided by the Elvenia J. Slosson Endowment Fund, which is dedicated to the advancement and promotion of the science and practice of horticulture, particularly including ornamental horticulture for the home gardener. Community Gardens

Cal Fire
UC Master Gardeners of Mariposa County work with a variety of local organizations to develop community gardens in Mariposa County. Some of these projects have included the Mariposa Creek Parkway, CALFire, the Visitor's Center and the Mariposa History Center.

Information Booths at Local Community Events

Pat & Janette Farmers Market
UC Master Gardeners of Mariposa County man an information booth at the Mariposa Farmers' Market every Wednesday starting in May through October, from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm. Gardening subjects and displays change each month and coincide with seasonal changes. Located at the Sixth Street parking lot on Stroming Road adjacent to the Mariposa Creek Parkway.

In addition, UC Master Gardeners of Mariposa County can be found at numerous local festivals and events, including the Butterfly Festival, Farm and Ranch Tour, Powwow and others. Booths are themed for the event and our volunteers are available to answer your home gardening and landscaping questions.

Plant-a-Row

PAR
The UC Master Gardeners of Mariposa County coordinate a Plant-a-Row program to connect local growers to local providers. Gardeners as well as local farms donate produce through Plant-a-Row and Master Gardeners distribute that local produce to local institutions fighting food insecurity and encouraging increased consumption of fresh produce, such as Manna House, Alliance, Heritage House, the Senior Center and Mariposa Safe Families.

Please contact us at 209-966-2417 or mgmariposa@ucdavis.edu if you are interested in partnering with us throughout any part of this process.

Mariposa County Fair Horticulture Building

Jeanne Ann Pine
The Mariposa County Fair on Labor Day Weekend is a labor of love for UC Master Gardeners of Mariposa County who perform docent duties in the fruit, vegetable and floral judging building (downstairs from the food judging building) every day of the fair.  Master Gardener docents talk about the displays and answer home gardening questions.

In addition, Master Gardeners would like to help you enter your floral or produce entries in the fair. We offer annual workshops and classes to help you enter in the fair.
School Gardens

Each year UC Master Gardeners of Mariposa County work with local schools to provide school garden education programs in collaboration with the Farm to School Program at local farms. The program is tailored to the specific needs of the students but generally focuses on planting seeds, appreciating the purpose of beneficial insects, composting and other garden activities.

Our Master Gardeners also make school site visits to help schools build a school garden program and connect teachers with garden curriculum for their classes.
