ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST ($3,169 - $6,058) – DIVISION OF BOATING AND WATERWAYS / AQUATIC INVASIVE SPECIES BRANCH / AQUATIC WEED ASSESSMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE SECTION

The reporting location for this position is in Sacramento. Dependent upon the alternate ranges, this position will work under the direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory). This position is responsible for applying scientific methods and principles for gathering, compiling, analyzing, and evaluating data for the Aquatic Weed Assessment and Environmental Compliance Section. This position will be working closely with state and federal partners to perform a rigorous and scientifically based systematic Delta wide and tributary assessment or research (i.e., classification and inventory of invasive aquatic vegetation for control and management by applying remote sensing techniques and/or related methods, beneficial uses of harvested aquatic plants). The scientist will also be interacting with other program unit or other agencies/organizations and develop public outreach materials related to aquatic invasive species.

This position should have journey level knowledge of principles of scientific research, statistical methods, various weed control measures, plant physiology, aquatic vegetation mapping, endangered and threatened species and their habitats, pesticide use; and applicable laws, rules, regulations, and requirements pertaining to the control and management of invasive aquatic plants. Incumbent should have knowledge of the basic principles of legislative process; California and Federal environmental regulatory and resource management laws, regulations, plans, programs, and policies relating to their program area; resource management practices and techniques; and chemicals and their interactions with and effects on public health and the environment.
