1) Does this course prepare me to take the exam to earn the California Nitrogen Management Specialty and be eligible to sign off on N management plans?

Yes, the course is based on the Performance Objectives developed for the exam and covers content related to the exam.

2) Where can I find the Performance Objectives for the exam?

The Performance Objectives are hosted on ASA's website here. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on CA-NSp Performance Objectives.

3) If I take this course, will I gain access to the questions on the exam?

No, the course does not feature quizzes or questions from the exam. If you want to prepare for the exam on your own, then refer to the Performance Objectives for what topics will be covered on the exam.

4) If I take this course, will I automatically earn the California Nitrogen Management Specialty and be eligible to sign off on N management plans?

No, taking the course helps to prepare for the exam, but does not substitute for taking and passing the exam.

5) When will the exam be offered in order to earn the California Nitrogen Management Specialty?

The exam is hosted and administered by the American Society of Agronomy, who periodically offers the exam. Refer to this website for more information. 

6) Do I have to be a CCA in order to take the course?

No, the course is available to anyone who wants to learn about N management or seeking CCA CEUs related to Nutrient or Soil and Water management. Note the course has not been made eligible for PCA units.

7) Do I need to be a CCA in order to take the exam?

Yes, only CCAs are eligible to take the exam and become a California N Specialist.

8) What if I took one of the UC Nitrogen Training Workshops between February 2014 and March 2020? Do I still hold the California Nitrogen Management Specialty? 

Yes, if you took the one of the 2-day UC Nitrogen Training Workshops you are not required to take the exam. You are required to fulfill the CEU requirements outlined here. This course offers eligible CCA CEUs for Nutrient and, Soil and Water Management.
