WeightsMeasures

The San Diego County Department of Agriculture, Weights & Measures handles regulations involving weighing and measuring devices. Their mission is to promote value comparison and fair competition in the marketplace. This is established by ensuring accuracy of market standards. Weights & Measures functions include:

  • Testing all commercially used measuring devices (i.e. scales, gas pumps, water vending machines, etc.)
  • Assure accuracy in privately owned utility meters and liquefied petroleum products
  • Weighmaster enforcement
  • Assure advertised price accuracy (i.e. store scanners account for advertised price of goods)

The commercial use of a weighing or measuring device requires a valid registration certificate issued from the County of San Diego’s Department of Agriculture, Weights & Measures. The cost of registering a commercial weighing or measuring device varies. For a complete list of device registration fees or for more information, please visit the Department of Weights & Measures’ site.
