Grapevine is one of the most cultivated fruit plants in the world with an estimated 7.5 million hectares of wine growing surface area in 2016 (The International Organization of Wine and Vine: Link). In California, grape is the second commodity group behind dairy. Grape production generated $6.3 billion in cash receipts in 2018, up 6.9% from 2017. Production increased by 10% from 2017, and prices received by growers decreased from $894 per ton of grapes in 2017 to $877 per ton in 2018 (CDFA Statistics).
