Water Wizards at AgFest

Jun 20, 2014

On Wednesday, June 18th 4-H staff and youth volunteers set up an educational booth for AgFest's "Wonderful Water" activity.

The booth used an activity from 4-H's Water Wizards curriculum, which focuses on teaching kids in grades 4-6 about water science, conservation, and service learning opportunities in their community.  The activity chosen for AgFest was about watersheds and how pollution can enter the water table.  Participants created mini mountain ranges out of tin foil, placed colored sprinkles at the peaks, and then made it "rain" with spray bottles.  The youth were able to see how the water flowed through the watershed and how the colors from the sprinkles bled out and contaminated the overall water supply.

The entire Water Wizards curriculum is done over 11 sessions, and can be done in either a 4-H Club or afterschool program setting.  If you would like more information about these activities, please contact Ariel at the County 4-H Office.
