Effect of soil salinity and ion toxicity on crop growth
Effect of soil salinity and ion toxicity on crop growth
In addition to the indirect effects of salinity, sodicity, and pH on soil fertility, saline water can also affect plant growth and yield by osmotic potential and toxic effect of specific ions such as B, Na+, and Cl-.
This section contains the data of salt tolerance (ECe threshold values and slopes) and specific ion tolerance limits for various crops. The data were mostly adapted from Maas 1986 and 1990.
