4H County Events

Below are some descriptions of the County Events we offer on a yearly basis. Please see the 4-H Calendar for dates.

Livestock 101 Camp

Interested in successfully raising a market animal? Join us for a fun filled day of learning how to select, feed, fit, show and care for your market animal! We will also be learning how to market your animal, find financing, and so much more!

 

PRESENTATION DAY

A County event where members give demonstrations to share skills learned in 4-H projects or prepared speeches on a subject of their choice.  Learn more about Presentation Day and the importance of public speaking by clicking here.



SPRING FLING

 Skills judging- A judging contest using static displays where members rank objects having to do with a specific skill. This year there will be no "reason's" given and all skills will be visual things having to do with clothing, food, leather crafts etc.

Photography- There are five classes of Photography: Animals/Birds, News/Action/Sports, Plants/Flowers, People, and Scenery.

Clothing and Textiles- Clothing members model the garments they have made/assembled and have their construction judged.

Duct Tape- members make clothing and accessories out of Duct Tape!

Foods- Food members have the opportunity to prepare a food items, include it within a balanced meal menu and present it in an appropriate place setting where it will be judged.

Crafts- Members enrolled in crafts and gardening projects showcase their work.

Poster- Any member can make a poster detailing something to do with 4-H either in general or specific to their project.

Primary members- "Mini" members can create a table setting, display sewing projects, crafts or photographs, or make a 4-H poster.

Just for Fun- Any member can create an edible art item out of food!

 

Livestock Ethics Fitting and Showing Field Day

At this wonderful event you will hone skills that will help you succeed in your livestock project! You will learn tips for improving your showmanship skills as well as tips for getting your animal ready for the judges at fair! You will also receive an Ethics Certificate which will be good for 5 years! The day will end with the opportunity to compete in a Knowledge Bowl!

 

4-H AWARENESS DAY

At the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds- During the Children's Fair

 A 4H Event designed to promote 4H locally.  Members create posters that express what 4H means to them. They can vary from posters about their favorite project, describe community services performed, to how 4H has impacted their life. Members that have pets and market animals coordinate a small petting zoo and interact with adults and children that visit. Event is held during the Children’s Fair.

 

SMALL ANIMAL FIELD DAY

Local 4-H Clubs host this judging event featuring rabbits, poultry, cavies, dogs and pygmy goats. Come on down and familiarize yourself with cute, fascinating animals!

 

HORSEMASTERSHIP/HORSE SHOW

Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds (The Saturday event is only open to members enrolled in the horse project. Sunday is open to all members but does not count as a County Event.)

A two-day horse event held in July. Saturday is only open to horse members and consists of judging and skilled events. Sunday is open to all 4H members and is modeled after a traditional Horse Show but does not count as a county event. A weekend of fun and impressive competitions!

Don't forget the Horse Show on Sunday is open to ALL 4H members not just those enrolled in the horse project but that Sunday only participants are NOT eligible to compete for a buckle!
