"Welcome Home Garden" Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
On May 8, 2015 Ventura County Master Gardeners participate in the unveiling of the "Welcome Home Garden" at the Veterans Home of California in Ventura (https://www.calvet.ca.gov/VetHomes/Pages/Ventura.aspx).
The program began with a welcome from Linda Griffin, Master of Ceremonies and Supervising Therapist. It was followed by the pledge of allegiance led by jerry Holladay, Vietnam veteran and Veterans Home resident.
Afterward the garden was blessed by Greg Sandoval, a member of the Chumash Native American Community and Veterans Home volunteer and Mary Anne Allen, Activity Coordinator at the Veterans Home.


Master Gardener Roanna Prell presented the history of Habitat Garden at the Veterans Home and Master Gardener Marilyn Lopez presented the "Welcome Home Garden" project.
Remarks included "On Behalf of all Veterans" presented by Rey Ortega, Veteran and volunteer and additional remarks by Richard Camacho, president of the Vietnam Veterans of Ventura County.
Once the ribbon was cut and photos taken, The California Depart of Veterans Affairs and the Veterans Home of Californa, Ventura extended heart-felt appreciation to Master Gardeners Barbara Hill, Marilyn Lopez, Ronna Prell, Iveen Garland, Gloria Hamblin, Marsha Meeker, Lynn Propes, Tina Van Coops, Verne Arnold and Leon Daniels for their part in creating the garden. Thanks were also given to Mike Glenn, of the Calfornia Department of Fish and Wildlife Service, and to all military veterans.
