Partner with Marathon Kids and host a Color Me Green 5K Run!

Description
This session will help volunteers and staff learn how to host a Color Me Green 5K Run. The Color Me Green 5K Run event will provide you with a statewide service learning opportunity specific to the improvement of health. Youth and adults will partner together to organize and execute a 5K run in your community. Past successes and challenges will be discussed and each participant will be given a CMG Host guide.The session will start with taking the participants on a run/walk.

Becoming a Global Citizen

Helping Youth Through Conflict

Description
Focus will be on how to help youth handle conflict by teaching staff and volunteers: How to identify and classify conflicts and difficulties including; know their personal triggers and how to keep calm in trying situations; learn strategies for effective conflict management including resources and support. This session will help volunteers learn ways to deal with conflict in order to be a positive role model and mentor to youth when they are dealing with their own difficulties.

Open Up to Performing Art

Description
In this workshop we will learn an experiential technique to encourage critical listening and see how that technique fits in the context of a full-day event or ongoing club program. A central feature of this workshop will be learning the Notice, Feel, Remind, Wonder framework and journaling activity. Includes small group discussion questions, a quiz on concert etiquette, ideas for seeing arts performances for free or little cost, and reflection questions.

Lessons from the Barn: Engaging Animal Science Curriculum for Adult and Youth Leaders

Description
In this workshop, a lesson from “Bio-security in 4-H Animal Science,” will be highlighted as well as other state recommended animal science curriculum. This session will bring current animal science training to participants and provide examples of how to include youth on both sides- as leaders and as learners - through a practice and discussion time. Participants will jump right into an activity, then discuss what happened – using the five senses- and finally analyze what’s important, why does it matter, and what’s next. The session emphasizes the importance of working with youth to practice and guide the lessons.

Breaking On the Shore: How you as a teen can bring new programs to your community

Description

This workshop will teach leaders how to better engage with millennials and recent alumni in the 4-H program. We will show leaders how to implement new opportunities for young adults, episodic volunteerism, at the local and higher levels of the 4-H program.This session will give attendees an opportunity to learn how to better utilize the recent alumni population of 4-H. It's a small change to engage this group of alumni but it has big impact to these alumni and to the youth members that they can now mentor.

Creating Change Through Youth-Driven Service-Learning Projects

Workshop participants will be introduced to two successful 4-H programs that incorporate service-learning projects and create partnerships between youth and adults throughout various communities. The workshop will provide Extension professionals with the opportunity to participate in a variety of hands-on examples of service-learning projects, as well as be given one year’s worth of service-learning plans that can be easily replicated to fit individual community needs.
