Hazardous Fuels Reduction

Overview of hazardous fuels treatment demonstrations objectives, outcomes, and findings. These treatments were implemented as studies of utilizing both conventional and innovative approaches in a range of terrains.

InfoGuides 

These brief packets will help define a variety of topics relating to woody biomass. Includes an overview of different wood product types, conversion pathways, and project development guides.

Research Publications

In this section you will find a collection of scientific publications related to biomass utilization, forest management techniques, and fuels treatments. Full publications and shorter reports and analysis included.

Feasibility Studies & Project Reports

Contains a variety of reports regarding the disposal and utilization opportunities surrounding Southern California Woody Biomass as prepared by the Woody Biomass Group for the USFS. We have also collected feasibility studies from several private consulting groups for past biomass development projects. These are a great starting pttoint for looking at some of the issues at play when attempting to develop your own utilization project.

Wood Handbook

Includes resources relating to the manufacture and use of wood into an end product. This section contains the full text of a technical manuscript published by the USDA Forest Service Forest Products Laboratory in 2010.

Hardwood Reference Materials

Publications and reports from projects assessing the hardwood utilization potential within the state of California. Looks at hardwood drying procedures, cost assessments, and presents findings on how to cope with the issue of Phytophthora ramorum (Sudden Oak Death). This section also contains the Hardwood Handbook released in 2007 by the Woody Biomass Group.
