About the Field Day


Attend the Advances in Citrus Water Use Workshop & Field Day and join UC Davis Irrigation Specialist Daniele Zaccaria as well as other water experts and specialists from the University of California Cooperative Extension, the California Department of Water Resources, and the Citrus Research Board to learn about research advances in water use and irrigation for citrus production. Gain firsthand practical knowledge of the latest developments in the citrus industry and become familiar with methods and tools to measure evapotranspiration (ET) and crop coefficients (Kc), tree water status, and monitor soil moisture to inform irrigation planning and scheduling decisions for citrus.

Avocado Day

Please join us for Avocado Field Day at UCR on November 17, 2015 from 11:00-3:30. The event is located at UCR's field research station (1060 Martin Luther King Blvd., Riverside).


The day will feature an avocado tasting from the selections that the UC Avocado Breeding Program has developed, a presentation from Dr. Francisco Mena on “High Density planting in Chile, pruning and use of Plant Growth Regulators”, tours of the salinity trial to see how UCR and South African Rootstocks have performed, an update on the Avocado rootstock breeding program and view the research on avocado tree growth from Rodrigo Iturrieta Espinoza (Dr. Arpaia's Ph.D. student).


We will have a catered lunch, courtesy of the California Avocado Commission and the California Avocado Society starting at 12:00.

Citrus growers and other Ag professionals are invited to attend the University of California, Lindcove Research and Extension Center Annual Citrus Fruit Display and Tasting on Friday December 13th starting at 9:00 A.M. During the Citrus Fruit Display day, you can see and taste more than 100 citrus varieties that are grown at Lindcove.

•Tour the Citrus Clonal Protection facilities that produce budwood with Dr. Georgios Vidalakis.

•View the action of the new fruit grading system in the packline that provides researchers with detailed information about fruit size, weight and quality demonstrated by Don Cleek

•Tour the demonstration orchard with Dr. Tracy Kahn who will discuss new citrus varieties
