Single-subject publications

After ANR peer review is complete, here are the steps that authors can expect during publication production with Communication Services:

CS editor (CS) copyedits the manuscript using Microsoft Word's track changes feature. The copyedited file is set up so that the author can review and make changes directly on it and all the author's work will show up as tracked changes.
CS editor may ask for missing supply material such as photos, sketches for artwork, data tables for graphs, and so on.
CS editor emails all chapters to the publication's lead author.
Author reviews copyediting and responds to any editing queries. When finished, he or she emails the file back to CS editor. (Lead authors should incorporate other authors' changes, if any, into the file, returning only one file.) Authors also supply missing material when they return the edited file.
CS editor incorporates the author's changes and prepares the file for CS designer. The manuscript won't move to design until all photos and other artwork are supplied.
CS designer lays out publication in its final form.
CS editor sends the lead author a PDF of the publication's layout. Authors should mark any critical changes on the PDF (or a print-out) and return it to CS editor. This stage is the last time authors will see the publication before it is uploaded to the Web or printed.
CS may also proofread the publication at the same time its author is reviewing it. CS editor will refer any proofer's questions to authors as needed.
All author and proofreader corrections are consolidated by CS editor and returned to designer for implementation.
When page proofs are final, CS finalizes the files and uploads it to the Web or sends it to the printer.
If the publication is a printed leaflet, the lead author receives 5 copies and all other authors, associate editor and peer reviewers receive one. (Authors can purchase additional copies of the publication at 40% discount.) For online publications, all authors, Associate Editor and peer reviewers receive an email notice with a link to the publication.
