San Diego is an important and unique county with a considerable need for expertise in this area. The existing resources and network will set a new Advisor up for success. I support this position.

Water and Environmental issues are large all over the state but SD county has a history of being impacted from multiple directions that other counties do not. As a highly urbanized area with a huge agricultural industry we find that the overlap of public and farming creates a very critical need for a position of this nature. Due to the high visibility the individual in this position must be able to balance public perception with agricultural economics to be able to effectively solve problems. I support the filling of this posiition.

This position is aligned with the University's bias, but its description falls short of the needs here. Unaffordable water, threatened availability of supply for Ag uses, and declining quality (more salt) need to be addressed too. Farmers welcome info on how to reduce fertilizer use to reduce costs while growing products to maximize income. Ag in SD County is in transition from past concentrations and this does not recognize that transition.

San Diego is unique as both an urbanized and leading agricultural county. Water quality and environmental issues are where those two worlds often meet. With a large number of small farms (5000+) operating on slopping lands often adjacent to preserved habitat, solving runoff and environmental challenges is essential for a farm's success. This is an important position that should be filled.
