2021 Call for CE Positions

The 2021 CE Position Call was launched in August 2021 to identify UCCE Advisor and UCCE Specialist positions to be released over the next 12 months. The process has concluded.

The 2021-22 Release of UCCE Positions web page will list all the positions that have been released for recruitment as a result of this process. On March 14, 48 CE Advisor positions were released. CE Specialist positions will be announced in April 2022.

Rebuilding the UC Cooperative Extension footprint, to address California's emerging and future needs, is made possible by the historic 2021-22 state budget increase. We are extremely grateful for the support and look forward to working with our partners to leverage these resources.

While this state budget increase will allow UC ANR to hire more people and achieve greater impact, we will continue seeking funding from additional sources to support the appropriate number of people with expertise needed to consistently and significantly improve the lives of all Californians. UC ANR continues to pursue non-traditionally funded positions as a complimentary strategy to grow the programmatic footprint. There are UC ANR resources on: how to develop co-funded positions and shared benefits of funding partnerships.

Process Information

Here is the link to the process flowchart with more details.

As in the past, we talked to our community partners and other stakeholders to identify the most pressing needs to prioritize the next rounds of hiring. We didn’t just refill past positions, instead we identified positions to address California’s emerging and future needs. Submittal groups, listed below, were expected to seek stakeholder input and work collaboratively across UC ANR units to make the best use of submission restrictions.

Review and consideration of UC ANR thematic cluster areas for hires was encouraged (see below) given building capacity in these areas is a priority to UC ANR.

This position is so valuable! And contributes to the growth of generations of youth through the 4H program. This person is vital in supporting the youth and the volunteers who work in the program to provide educational, safe and fun activities. They also become a role model for these kids, someone who they can trust and know have their best interests in mind. And for the parents, this person is another eye, another trusted adult, and another leader for our kids to look up to, to confide in, to learn from. Being a 4H alum, I can remember all of the advisors I got to work with--they all left their mark and influence on my life. I definitely want the same support and experiences for my daughter.

Suggestions:

1. Speaking around Expanded Learning Programs (ELP) opportunities, I would definitely call out “summer learning” as part of the language around afterschool and out-of-school time opportunities. This would make it more in-line with the California Department of Education’s language around Expanded Learning, as they have recently created a new Division that used to be called After School to an Expanded Learning Division that is referred as the after school and summer learning programs. Additionally I will add that with the passing of the American Rescue Plan in March 2021, school districts across the country now have access to a large sources of funding to provide additional programming and last year we saw a huge jump in summer learning opportunities with these funds, and this summer looks like it will be much bigger efforts happening since this year there has been more time to plan for summer programming based on when the legislation was passed. The American Rescue Plan dollars will be available to school districts around the country until around 2024 and so this will enhance the opportunities available for 4-H programming and partnerships with school district funding/partnerships.

2. As it relates to expected/suggested partnerships, I would include the California AfterSchool Network for the latest research and data on Expanded Learning programs, as they publish the latest CDE data through their State of the State for Expanded Learning publication(s), and can connect the person in this position to any of the Expanded Learning Programs in these two counties. I would also specifically include the Alameda County Office of Education and the Sacramento County Office of Education, as they house the Regional Lead positions who serve as technical assistance providers for Solano County and Yolo County, respectively.

I agree with the above comments and would like to add having an educational background and experience in building, promoting, and developing partnerships with community agencies for and on behalf of the Expanded Learning Programs.
