Statewide programs

Programs organized to focus research and extension on solving priority problems in the management of California agriculture, natural resources, and human development.

Agricultural Issues Center - Analyzes issues important to California and Western agriculture and conducts applied research.

IGIS - Informatics and Geographic Information Systems - Through data capture, information sharing and collaboration, IGIS aims to increase the ability to make meaningful predictions of the agricultural, ecosystem and community response to future change, to increase our understanding of California’s diverse natural, agricultural and human resources, and to support research and outreach projects that enhance agricultural productivity, natural resource conservation and healthy communities into the future.

Integrated Pest Management Program - Develops and promotes the use of integrated and ecologically sound pest management programs in California. IPM also is the home of Office of Pesticide Information and Coordination, which coordinates and reviews ANR activities pertaining to pesticide research, experimentation and use.

California Naturalist Program fosters a diverse community of naturalists to promote stewardship of California's natural resources through education and service. In partnership with local organizations, California Naturalists receive hands on instruction in environmental science, conservation issues, hands-on data collection, and communication designed to enhance personal connection with the natural world. In sum, California Naturalist increases environmental literacy and stewardship through discovery and action. 

Master Gardener Program - UC-trained volunteers extend research-based information to the public about home horticulture and pest management. The information is provided to the public in classes, via telephone hotlines, at community events and in demonstration gardens.

Master Food Preserver Program – UC-trained volunteers teach research-based practices of safe home food preservation to the residents of California.  Workshops and demonstrations focus on food safety, canning, drying and freezing food for storage and consumption.  The statewide program is administered locally by participating UC Cooperative Extension offices.

Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program (SAREP) - Integrates three main goals: environmental health, economic profitability, and social and economic equity in agriculture. SAREP is a partner with UC Davis’ Agricultural Sustainability Institute (ASI), the larger hub that links initiatives and education across UC and other partners in the state.

Youth, Families and Communities Program - Encompasses the 4-H Youth Development Program (4-H YDP), and Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), as well as other ANR youth, nutrition, family and community programs. The development of policy, program guidance, outreach, educational curriculum and professional development for ANR’s youth, families and communities programs is consolidated under the YFC statewide program.
