Background and Objectives
Israel and California are two of the world's leaders in irrigation and agricultural water use science. Both California and Israel's agriculture industries rely heavily on developed water resources for irrigation. As water economies become tighter, the partnership between science and policy has become vital, especially if we still want to feed the world and preserve the environment.
The Binational Agriculture Research and Development (BARD) Workshop will bring together scientists, extension academics, stakeholders and policy makers with the focus on the future of water use in semi-arid agriculture and the policy and economics necessary for sustainability. The workshop will focus on two wide topics, including:
- Scientific developments and innovations that can increase the efficiency of irrigation with water from a variety of sources, without compromising the environment, and
- Water-energy policy and economics.
