Weisbaden Farmer's Market

Jan 4, 2013

When we were in Germany in October I was very curious to see what the Weisbaden farmers' market would be like. Weisbaden is a city of over 200,000 inhabitants. Their farmers' market happened twice a week . They started setting it up the evening before the event. The fruit and vegetables were displayed beautifully, reminding me of Pike's Place Market in Seattle.
In addition to the fruit and vegetables there were also places to buy fresh bread, eggs, cheese, smoked fish, a regular butcher's van and a butcher that specialized in wild game. In perusing the stalls we came across one that specialized in mushrooms and another that had luscious looking berries, many of which I didn't recognize. They had many floral booths, but these also offered wreathes. There was also a very lively beer and wine tent and also offered entertainment on the weekend day. The market was extremely popular. In fact the only thing the market seemed to lack was Master Gardeners. Maybe we could take turns volunteering.
