The last two years in California have been a reality check, forcing a collective understanding that the fire problem is not just about fire. Emergency response, community planning, public health, policy, science—we know now that we need all hands on deck to move forward.

The fire summit will bring together community leaders, policy makers, and movers and shakers—people like you!—from a wide range of disciplines. Vision 20/20: A Fire Resilient California will expand our understanding of California’s fire problem and provide an opportunity to build connectivity, interaction, and integration across disciplines and better understand the complexity of and find solutions to California’s wildfire challenge.

The Summit will:

• provide an opportunity for shared learning from diverse attendees;
• enhance community wildfire planning;
• daylight best practices on community and state levels;
• and develop actionable items in policy, communications, management, planning, economic development, public- private partnerships, etc. to help build fire resiliency.

Intended audience: The Summit will convene fire professionals, local and state policy makers, rural and urban planners, scientists, forest managers, public health representatives, foundations, and others with an interest or role in wildfire to help build cohesive vision for a fire-resilient California. The intention is to bring leaders from throughout California to work side-by-side to engage in this collective learning opportunity and help identify near- and long-term opportunities to prepare and adapt to more frequent wildfires. Prior experience in wildfire or fire recovery is not expected. Space is limited.

What to expect? You can expect to join a 1.5-day program where you’ll hear inspiring speakers and be placed in an interdisciplinary team to identify and craft solutions to California’s fire challenges. The experience will help prepare attendees to evaluate their own communities’ risks and help identify and establish programs for their fire adaptation. The Fire Summit will begin with a dinner on April 16 and conclude on the evening of April 17.
