Tahoe Basin Road Field Trips
Announcing Two Field Trips on Roads and Road Management in the Tahoe Basin
July 15 and July 30, 2013
On June 13-14 a workshop on roads and road management in the Tahoe Basin will be held at Tahoe Regional Planning Agency headquarters in Stateline, NV. To find out more about this workshop and to register for it go to http://ucanr.edu/tahoeroads/. Two field trips are planned in conjunction with this workshop. The first will be held on July 15, 2013. Sites where road improvement projects have been conducted on California State Parks land and Homewood Ski Area will be visited. The second trip will be held on July 30 and will focus on the south and east shore areas including visits to High Meadow, Angora and the South Upper Truckee area.
The objectives of the field trips will be to observe and discuss approaches for minimizing the hydrologic and water quality impacts of un-surfaced roads. Although attendance at the workshop on June 13-14 is not required, it is strongly recommended for field trip participants.

This workshop and field trips is co-sponsored by the Northern California Society of American Foresters, Lahontan Water Quality Control Board, University of California Cooperative Extension, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, California State Parks Department, California Geological Survey and US Forest Service, Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit and Integrated Environmental Restoration Services. The workshop is supported in part by a grant from the US Forest Service, State and Private Forestry.
Who Should Attend
The field trips should interest resource managers, landowners managing roads, environmental activists concerned about roads, road users e.g., recreationists, and agency personnel involved with regulating road-related projects and road users. The field trips are generally aimed at fostering an understanding of road uses and management in the Tahoe Basin, particularly in view of ongoing efforts to improve the environmental performance of roads.
These will be day-long events and participants should be prepared for moderate hiking and will provide their own transportation and lunch
