Rose is the Small Farms Community Educator. She is of Honduran and Mexican descent and originally from the Bay Area, transplanted to Southern California to study microbiology and chemistry. She obtained her Bachelor of Science from Cal Poly Pomona followed by work as a Level III medical research laboratory technician and manager in academic settings such as UCSD, Children’s Hospital, Los Angeles, and University of Southern California. As a backyard grower, Rose’s passion for agriculture led her back to Cal Poly Pomona and to the College of Agriculture. While in graduate school, she worked with school and community gardens. Her master's thesis included the study of pathogenic bacteria in urban farm soil when amended with various raw animal manures and foodborne illness. She was inducted into the Gamma Sigma Delta, Honor Society of Agriculture and received her Master of Science in Agriculture with an emphasis in Plant Science in May of 2022.

As a first-generation American on her mother’s side, she was told stories of growing and processing food as well as maintaining livestock in Honduras. Her father has memories of working in fruit orchards as a family. These family stories, in addition to her passion for agriculture, motivated her to join the UCCE Small Farms team. She appreciates that in her role as a Small Farms Community Education Specialist she has the opportunity to assist agriculture producers in California, especially BIPOC and disadvantaged farmers.
